Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the manipulation of skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments with the goal of helping the body to heal itself.

Our bodies store toxins in our tissues, including chemicals and metals from our environments, lactic acid from overworked muscles, and waste products from our diets. A build-up of these toxins can cause anything from soreness and stiffness to disorder and dis-ease.

This is where massage therapy, in conjunction with nutritional and chiropractic care, can help. By using varying levels of pressure in certain areas, massage can reach into even the deepest tissues of the body, improving circulation and blood flow, breaking up scar tissue, and assisting in the elimination of waste products.

We offer the following massage services:

Therapeutic/Deep Tissue Massage

30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes
Rid your body of tension, release tightness, and find relief from chronic and acute pain caused by injury or overworked muscles. This therapeutic massage focuses on deeper problem areas, with greater pressure applied during the massage.

Classic Relaxing Stress Relieving Massage

30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes
This massage uses a classic stress-relieving, medium-pressure technique, incorporating varied strokes of gliding and kneading to promote circulation and an overall sense of well-being. Your therapist will adjust the pressure appropriately to accommodate your comfort level.

Warm Stone Massage

60 minutes
This is a Swedish massage enhanced by warm stone therapy. Smooth stones glide over the skin, warming muscles and inducing a unique, comforting form of relaxation.

Himalayan Salt Stone Massage

60 minutes
The heat of the salt melts restrictive fascia to go deeper into the muscles and loosen the joints. The moist heat of the stones assist with soothing inflamed muscles and joints. This massage helps detoxify and alkaline the body, leaving the skin feeling refreshed and glowing.

Add-on treatments to Warm Stone or Himalayan Salt Stone Massage:

  • EO Foot Treatment
Give your feet some special attention!  Enjoy the healing benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oils used with a combination of hot towels and a revitalizing sugar scrub, finished with peppermint cream.  This service adds 15 minutes to your massage time.
  • Peppermint Scalp Massage
Peppermint can assist scalp care by balancing the pH levels of the scalp, increasing scalp circulation, stimulating hair follicles, promoting hair growth, and relieving inflammation with its cooling, relaxing effect.  This service adds 15 minutes to massage time.
  • Cold Stone Facial Massage
Sinus problems are soothed away using cold marble stones.  It improves circulation and assists in the reduction of inflammation to help alleviate headache symptoms.  This service adds 15 minutes to your massage time.

Prenatal Massage

Massage can be a great addition to your prenatal care at the Well during your second and third trimesters. Prenatal massage works to relax muscle tension and improve blood and lymphatic circulation through the application of mild pressure to the muscle groups of the body. This can reduce the aches and pains associated with pregnancy, including those in the neck, back, hips, legs, glutes, and joints. Nerve pain, especially Sciatic nerve pain, can be reduced or eliminated, along with headaches associated with muscle tension and restricted blood flow.

Increased blood and lymphatic circulation have many great benefits, especially during pregnancy. Swelling during pregnancy is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure from the uterus. Massage encourages the lymphatic system to remove any collected fluids, while the boost in blood circulation increases blood flow to the placenta and improves overall immunity.

Prenatal massage also helps to regulate hormone levels, leading to decreased anxiety and symptoms of depression. Norepinephrine and cortisol, hormones associated with stress, have been shown to decrease with regular massages, while the hormones dopamine and serotonin have been shown to increase; low levels of dopamine and serotonin are associated with depression. Hormone regulation also aids in better sleep and increases energy levels during the day. It also leads to fewer complications during birth and lowers the chance of postnatal complications in newborns.

Massage therapy services

Cold Stone Face Massage

This cyrotherapeutic service is particularly helpful for those that experience headaches and migraines, as well as allergy sufferers, as the marble stones soothe inflammation and swelling in the sinuses. The cold constricts the blood vessels when the stone is applied. The blood vessels then dilate when the stone is removed, providing the tissue again with fresh, oxygenated blood. This treatment is good for both acute and chronic sufferers.

Seated Chair Massage

Focusing on your back, shoulders, neck, and arms, a seated chair massage is performed over your clothes and doesn’t require any massage oil. You will be seated in a special chair with your face resting in a cradle. Your back and neck completely relax while the therapist relieves muscle tension using Swedish massage moves like kneading and compression.

The following modalities are available in Doylestown only:

QiGong

QiGong is a combination of physical postures, breathing techniques, and focused intentions that together work to reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system.  This simple, gentle practice may be adapted for any person, big or small, young or old, and can improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, and digestive functions.

Shiatsu

During a shiatsu session, pressure is applied with thumbs or palms to the surface of the body to stimulate the flow of vital energy.  This improves circulation of the blood and lymph and contributes to a better functioning immune and nervous system.

What our clients are saying…

“There have been many chapters of my healing in my journey at the WOLC. And massage has been written into many of those chapters. I have been blessed by this lovely young woman Michelle and her incredible gift of touch. I came to her at a point ready to move into the challenges I was having with my neck that were causing debilitating migraines, vertigo, severe equilibrium problems along with ear and eye issues. Without her part in the healing process I would not have moved to the level of function I have today. I’m walking better and moving more freely…she has helped give me back a part of my life that I thought was lost. Thank you Michelle, thank you WOLC!”

Kathy C.

“I began my Well of Life massage therapy journey in August 09 in conjunction with my nutritional program. Suffering from headaches, stress and strained muscles, Michele therapeutic touch has provided relief and facilitates my body’s natural healing. Michele has a wonderful and warm personality which makes for a truly relaxing two hour session. I would encourage those who are not benefiting from massage therapy to give it a try.”

Kevin Y.

“Michelle’s massages do wonders to enhance my flexibility, posture and have taught me how to better relax. She’s not just a wonderful massage therapist, she’s an awesome person all around.”

Michelle S.

“My experience with the massage department at the Well of Life Center has been fantastic. It’s an intense experience and what it does to further one’s well-being cannot be matched. What I have learned about how and why my muscles are doing certain things is invaluable. I would encourage anyone coming to the Well of Life to try this modality.”
