Healthy Cooking

Eat Well, Be Well

Eating nutritious, balanced meals is a key part of the healing that takes place within your body, and the Well of Life Center has always made it a priority to help you expand and improve your healthy cooking skills and techniques. Our goal is to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you as you work to keep yourself and your family healthy.

In the past, we have offered different opportunities to help you in this endeavor, including cooking classes, meal planning programs, and more. Now, with the abundance of great cooking shows and Paleo, gluten-free, and whole-food recipes and instructional videos available online and on TV, we find these services are not as necessary for us to offer. In order to best evaluate the changing needs and desires of our clients, we are, at this time, no longer hosting cooking classes or lectures, or offering our iPLAN meal planning service. We hope to use this time to find new and exciting ways to expand our cooking department!

During this time, we will be asking for your help in determining how we may best serve you. We would love to hear what you are looking for from our cooking department, and what sort of services you would like to see us offer. Please contact us to let us know your thoughts and needs!

Cooking Classes

Eating healthfully is delicious! At at Well of Life cooking class, we teach a “real food” diet while you prepare recipes your body will appreciate! You also have the opportunity to learn the importance of nutrition, gain some time-saving tips and techniques, and participate in conversations about local sources for organic produce and local farmers.

Each class ends with a family-style meal to enjoy our creations. Over the meal, participants typically share their experiences, successes, and struggles with eating real food in a predominantly processed food world, and may even debunk some health food myths. You leave class with an appreciation for real food and a strength in knowing you are treating your body WELL!

Specialty Classes

These classes are part informational and part hands-on cooking, so you not only learn the “what” and “how” of eating the Well of Life way, but the “why” as well. During this class, we offer a 15-20 minute presentation, followed by the cooking portion of the class. You benefit by learning the synergy of the ingredients and, when consumed, how they become an instrument in healing.

Subjects include Sprouting, Fermentation, Parasite Protocol, Gut Health, Nutrition During Pregnancy, Baby Food, and more. How exciting is it to eat something that tastes delicious and is a blessing to your body?! If only we could get the dishes to do themselves!

Eating the "Well" Way

In this class, we talk about how what we do is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change. You are able to gain support and hope through the encouragement of long-standing clients as they share their own experiences and struggles, as well as how they overcame them. They also share how these lifestyle changes have affected them spiritually, emotionally, and financially.

To help get you started on making changes in your own life, our cooking department staff discusses how to change your pantry, local food sources, favorite easy recipes, healthy snacks, green smoothie options, broth, and time- and money-saving tips!

iPLAN Meal Planning Program

This program helps you take the guesswork out of planning healthy, nutritious meals for you and your family, and is individually designed to your specific likes and needs.

With the iPLAN, you receive a two-week schedule of Clinician-approved recipes, including selections for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as additional suggestions for substitutions and alternatives that will help you use this meal plan for two to three months!

What past students had to say about our cooking classes…

“The cooking classes provide a wonderful introduction to what kinds of foods are necessary to support healthy living and what these foods look like both in cooking and in presentation. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable in kitchen tools and how to use them safely, food preparation, presentation of food and how to make changes in recipes/substitutions when needed.

There are probably a zillion things I have missed! I would definitely encourage anyone who doesn’t cook a lot to someone who does love to cook to take these series of cooking classes as it puts the value of healthy cooking and eating in your own hands.”

Sue M.

“I most enjoyed eating the food after cooking it together! I also enjoyed going home and being able to try out new skills and recipes for my husband.”

Ruth M.

“The wonderful recipes and the substitutions to take old recipes and convert them in to a healthier meal. My family has eaten foods the claim they do not like!”

Kelly S.

“Being with everyone and learning together and cooking together and especially sharing the delicious meals that we prepared.”

Louann P.

“The cooking certificate program is an essential component in changing to a healthier lifestyle. Participating in this program enabled me to prepare healthy meals on a daily basis and entertain with a variety of delicious dishes. Prior to this course my cooking talents consisted of following the directions on the box or can (prepared and processed). I was able to rid my pantry of all that nutritionally deficient food. Now my kitchen stables consist of fruits and vegetables in season, spelt flour, coconut and olive oils, grain fed beef and chicken and fish. Preparing foods ahead of time with current fruits and vegetables has helped me maintain a healthy diet throughout a busy work week.

I learned how to use various knives correctly (they are kept on my counter for daily use). I learned specific cooking techniques that I didn’t understand before. My husband is thrilled with my new cooking abilities. My kitchen will never be the same!

The most important part for me is that I have learned how to prepare healthy alternatives to replace a lifelong habit of eating poorly. This program provides the knowledge to ensure lifelong healthy eating. I completed this course being able to prepare main courses, appetizers, salads, and desserts.”
