sprouts

Walking through the aisles of the grocery store, it’s not hard to see that much of the Standard American Diet is processed, overcooked, bleached, irradiated, genetically modified, and full of refined sugar, preservatives, pesticides, artificial colors and flavors, hormones, and antibiotics.  What does this kind of diet do to our bodies?  It places them under incredible stress!

If we want our bodies to be able to heal from the stresses placed on them and in them, we need to do more than just “eat better.”  We must give the body foods that are full of life force — Super Foods.

Sprouts are Super Foods.  They are one of the most complete and nutritious foods you can eat, rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and enzymes.  They are also easily assimilated in the body and they improve the efficiency of digestion.  Best of all, they are delicious, fresh, and colorful!

Alfalfa, radish, broccoli, and clover sprouts all contain an abundance of highly active antioxidants that prevent DNA destruction and protect the body from the ongoing effects of aging.  They also contain concentrated amounts of phytochemicals, or plant compounds, that can protect us against disease.  Alfalfa sprouts in particular are one of the best sources of a compound called saponin.  Saponins balance cholesterol levels and help prevent arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.  They also stimulate the immune system by increasing the activity of certain “natural killer” cells, such as T-lymphocytes and interferon.

Sprouts can be added to your salads or green smoothies, eaten alone, or placed inside of your favorite sprouted grain tortilla or pita!
